About Us

Corning Store
Pure Design has "morphed" from a design and manufacturing business based in Canada to a retail operation based in Corning, New York. Although PureDesignOnline.com has been around for many years, the first brick and mortar location in Corning only opened on September 1st in 2006. We hope you will come to visit us in Corning, and share our love of design.

New Pure Design
Originally conceived as a manufacturer of "a diverse and unique collection that challenged traditional furniture categories and created new ones", the new Pure Design retail venture relies on others for production, but continues with the same objective by offering our customers a functionally broader group of products, while maintaining the design integrity of the original three partners in Pure Design. See our "designers" section to find the backgrounds on the broad group of those that we consider to be of "Pure Design pedigree". Many of these are designers for Offi & Company, since Pure Design has initially focused on becoming the first "Authorized Offi Partner". However, in the very near future you may look forward to products from such esteemed designers as Angela Adams, Sandy Chilewich, Oliver Hemming, Babette Holland, as well as products from design based companies such as Dwell, Oli, PrettyUgly, Loom, FAT BOY, BumbleRide and PIXEL.

History
Pure Design was founded in 1994 by three industrial designers. Geoffrey Lilge, Randy McCoy, and Daniel Hlus came together because of a shared love and respect for design. Forming their company, Pure Design, in 1994 they produced their first product - metal CD racks - by hand. Their goal was a diverse and unique collection that challenged traditional furniture categories and created new ones. Their philosophy lies within the individuality of their designs, and collectively their style emerged. Within three years of the company's formation the partners were overseeing 30 employees and a product line of 75 different 2001 Alumni Horizon Awards accessories. Pure Design products have been featured on the set of Ally McBeal, a Janet Jackson pop video, a Steven Spielberg film, and in the 2001 Alumni Horizon Awards of collectors who love Pure Design's upbeat, liberal approach to design. In May of 2001, Pure Design was awarded the prestigious Editors Award for Furniture at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City.

Geoff left the team in 2002, and Randy and Dan sold the production and distribution part of Pure Design in 2005, but all are currently doing independent design work in Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA for companies such as Offi & Company. In 2005, Pure Design product manufacturing and distribution was sold, and puredesignonline.com now operates as a separate retail entity.
